28 mm Buildings
Gents, Setting aside 'In the Grand Manner', which range of 28mm buildings would your ceommned for AWI? In particular, what is the view on Hovels (their ACW range as they don't have an AWI range) as compared to JR minitures? Any inmput would be gratefully received. Many thanks. Rgds Marko

Marko, JR miniatures has a nice range of AWI buildings and Chew House is outstanding. The painted images are not as good at the models are. They also have a number of buildings under their ACW range that could be used. The Hobby Bunker is in the process of producing a range of buildings the first of which should be available next week. The building is from my Bunker Hill game and based on a house from 1680 in Ipswich MA. There are no buildings from Charlestown that pre-date the battle as they were all burned down. Additional buildings will follow and each will be based existing structures from the period or plans taken from buildings of the period. They should also be useful or French and Indian Wars and ACW. The JRM buildings are, like all of their ranges, small for their official size - their 25mm buildings are better suited to 20mm; their 15mm to 10/12mm, and so on. Hovels were designed some years ago and so are more in tune with true 25mm, but don't look quite so obviously smaller than the figures than JRM. There's also Stronghold Miniatures in the UK, which has several ranges covering ACW, F&IW, Vauban, earth fort, Wild West etc. Unfortunately, their website is very strange at the moment and you can't see anything.

Hello Marko, Have you considered making your own 28mm buildings? It's cheaper, relatively easy and a lot more fun. http://ubique-matt.blogspot.com/2008/12/freeman-farm-house.html http://ubique-matt.blogspot.com/2008/12/jason-russell-house-front-view.html I was inspired to have a try after seeing the excellent 'Touching History' books. All you really need is foam board, the rest of the other materials aren't really necessary but will improve the overall look. Regards, Matt

Hello Marko, Have you considered the ACW farmhouse kit produced by the Perries - this would do for an AWI farmhouse as well, I'm sure.... I normally go for buildings a scale smaller than the figures - so 10mm buildings with 15mm figures - your eye soon gets used to the difference, and the buildings obviously have a smaller footprint.
