2nd Edition Rule Quetions
Hi, I've enjoyed 2 or 3 games with the rules and like them a lot. However I have a couple of questions. 1. At the begining of the game how are forces placed on the table? Should each side make a sketch map and then deploy or do they just place units on the table, does the defender deploy first or none of these? 2. In direct fire how many times can an enemy unit be targeted? I appreciate that when activating a comand group targets have to be nominated. Lets say the first comand group fails to hit the target, can a subsequently activated command group engage the same unit?

P, At the beginning of the game how are forces placed on the table? Should each side make a sketch map and then deploy or do they just place units on the table, does the defender deploy first or none of these? See 3.9 Deployment of Forces - the defender should do a sketch map noting Hidden units and deploy all non-hidden units on table. If the attacker has any hidden units these are also noted on a sketch map and all other units are deployed on table. Note that both defender and attacker may have Hidden and Ambushed Camouflaged units, though the attackers are restricted to deploying within 8" <12"> on table. In direct fire how many times can an enemy unit be targeted? I appreciate that when activating a command group targets have to be nominated. Let’s say the first command group fails to hit the target, can a subsequently activated command group engage the same unit? Yes - there is no restriction with different Combat Groups. E.G It would be a bit unfair if a German Tiger tank was the target of one combat group that failed to affect it, for then all other combat groups to be barred from engaging it! Also note that it is assumed that each combat group is not deemed to be activated at exactly the same time, there is a time lag, so it is appropriate for subsequent combat groups to engage such targets. Hope that helps. DB

Small Arms Support Fire
Hi We are a little confused over the requirements for small arms support fire. Can sections with short range weapons such as SMGs provide +1 support modifiers to HMGs firing at their maximum range; or do all supporting sections have to be in range of the target? Steve
