A question on BASING
As per my Firing post, after an extensive but negative search within the forum posts, I have a question regarding Unit basing: do you use 2 different type of bases, 30mm and 40mm, for 6 and 8 figures companies, or you usually base them all on 40mm wide base (since 40mm seems to be the perfect front also for Cavarly units), in order to gurantee an omogenic front for batallions ? I am clearly talking about 15mm figures :) since we decided to skip from the old 25mm units based for shako to the new 15mm from Fantassin/warmodelling, which offers a wide range of armies with a good detail for a very cheap price. Also, in the pursuit to recruit new players, We are planning to arrange for scenarios with a lesser number of figures (actually half the size of a Battallion) to either fasten the game and avoid newbies to get feared by the number of Miniatures to eventually buy/paint/field ;) So I was planning to base my army on Single rank 10mm deep bases so I can eventually use them for regular games and for Intro scenarios, do you think this is something doable or forbidden ?

Hi, Essentially you use 10mm per man frontage for 15mm close order infantry, so 6x20mm for a 24 figure unit, 6x30mm for a 30 or 36 man outfit etc. I'd recommend you take a look at: http://jcminiatures.blogspot.com/2006/03/french-order-of-battle-les-quatre-bras.html for examples of how to base figures - by the way do not sign up to the blog as it has been dormant for some time and you will be bombarded with offers of young ladies doing very rude things.

Base frontage is pro-rata. A 'base' has no particular function in these rules, apart from identifing formation. Divide your battalions/regt etc into whatever number of figures you want. The only subunit of note being light infantry companies. No other subunit matters.
