Demi-Brigade Uniforms
It is going to be a busy period painting in this household. One of the projects about to get underway is a new French army using Eureka's Revolutionary French. I will be basing the organisation on Massena's division at Lonato in 1796 and have decided to start with Claude Victors brigade consisting of the 18e demi-brigade d'Infanterie de Ligne and part of the 11e demi-brigade d'Infanterie de Ligne. Now the 18e was formed from the 5e demi-brigade de bataille (1er Bat, 3e Regt d'Inf, 1er Bat Vol de Doubs and 4e Bat Vol Seine- Inferieure) the 24e demi-brigade de bataille (2e Bat 12e Regt d'Inf, 3e Bat Vol de la Somme, 10e Bat Vol de Reserve, 2e and 4e Bat Vol de Requisition d'Amiens) and the 45e demi-brigade de bataille (1er Bat, 23e Regt d'Inf, 1er Bat Vol des Basse-Alpes and 1er Bat Vol de la Lozere) While the 11e was formed from the 20e demi-brigade de bataille (2e Bat,10e Regt d'Inf, 2e Bat Vol de la Lozere and 2e bataillon de Chasseurs de l'Isere) 103e demi-brigade de bataille (1er Bat,52e Regt d'Inf, 1er Bat Vol de Marseille and 2e Bat Vol de Luberon) Simple so far right! Now what uniforms would these have likely been wearing in 1796, blues with bicornes? White with casques? A mixture? Which battalions in which ahhh... It is making my head hurt, but the figures are soo nice... Help!!!

Hi, You have two issues to overcome: 1) What were the regulation uniforms of the units that went to make up the demi-briagdes and how much did the actual uniforms differ; and 2) how much of that uniform would they still have been wearing in 1796, especially if there were subsequent issues of clothing? Not really my period, so can't be much help other than to direct you here:- http://www.darnault-mil.com/Galerie/Rev_Cons.php Bonne chance!
