Eugene Beauharnais in 15mm
Just the odd Photo or two to remind myself how to post pictures - at my age being a technophobe and all means if you don't practise for a couple of months you might just forget - and that applies to everything not only painting minis. ( Yes Giles we've all noticed how quiet you have been of late!) So here's Col Eugene de Beauharnais sculpted by Tony Barton and painted by yours truly. Has anyone noticed how this figure almost feels like one is painting a flat figure? It's not that i've ever painted any of those German flats - but my imagination is good! Don't get me wrong the figure is amazing but he just feels a bit flatter than the normal figures. Exquisite is the best word to describe ABs - I doubt if there will ever be a better sculptor than Mr Barton. Enough of....hope you like! >

Yes, you can see it is very "profiled" - I suspect that this is to do with the pose of the figure, in order to make it easier to cast (otherwise you would need a separate pelisse for starters). Nice paint job - always fascinated by how people paint greys.

Yes Giles we've all noticed how quiet you have been of late! I lost my login/password details  Beautiful painting, bk. I haven't seen ABs for real in a while, but I recall a fair few of the cavalry are very thin. Conquest Miniatures' 25mm indians can be a bit like that.

I had the good fortune to see some exquisites flats on display in Kulmbach Castle (Germany) back in the early 80s. I also have this figure (unpainted). I can definitely say that flats are much flatter and do not compare to the detail that Tony Barton puts into his figures. While this figure may be "profiled," the figure still has great depth. You have done a masterful job painting the figure!

In addition to the need to cast the pelisse properly, it may also be something to do with the fact that this is a one piece casting. A lot of the mtd officers that are OPCs have the rider looking to one side making the figure slightly narrower. Having said that its not really noticeable unless you are looking for it. john
