There are indeed more than a few typos - partly my fault, and partly the poor editor, who wasn't a wargamer! That's why publishing houses have professional copy editors...
Anyway, the arguments discussed above are all quite correct, and the range, while a tad long, is really a gaming thing, rather than a pure reflection of ground scale. We tinkered with various ranges and ground scales, and simply this one produced the most enjoyable game. Long range musketry isn't particularly effective, and the sensible commander will wait until the enemy close within 6". If we had it even closer, then we'd get into all sort of muddles with the charge sequence. However, feel free to tinker - that's what this gentlemanly hobby is meant to be all about!
