GdB Scenario-Last Attack of the Imperial Guard
Hi all
Im new to General de Brigade but hope to wargame this scenario. Can anyone please tell me what 28mm figures I could use for both Brigade Friants and Michels skirmish screens using Perry Miniatures excellent Imperial Guard Grenadiers and Chasseurs from their French 1815 range -Young Guard Voltigeurs :?:
Cheers
The Guard Attack at Waterloo was primarily the Middle Guard. I am not aware of any Perry models that would work for Middle Guard. Front Rank has an extensive line of French including the Middle Guard Grenadiers and Chasseurs.

Thanks for your reply Mikeb.
You might be interested to know that Perry Miniatures now do 3rd/4th Chasseurs a Pied/Grenadiers of the Imperial Guard (code FN96) in their historically correct poorly uniformed appearance with mixed headgear with command figures (code FN95)-well worth a look.
As regard my Brigades Friant and Michel skirmish screens, and having read a reply to this forum back in 2006,I have decided to use Perry Miniatures Voltigeur/Grenadier (FN7) figures as being from the 13th Legere (Light) Regt who as part of Donzelots Division supported the Middle Guard attack.Besides there appears to have been not too many instances when the Imperial Guard sent out their own btn skirmishers and Perry Miniatures have not released them.
Recent research has cast serious doubt on the legend of the mixed uniforms of these regiments. According to the original documents, bearskins were issued to all members of them, as were the proper uniforms. It also now seems that the grenadiers a cheval probably wore their traditional uniform, rather than the plain surtout.

C,
Interested to know where you picked up on this new research - am I going to have to redo my slightly scruffy but nonetheless distinctly menacing Waterloo middle Guard! :?:

Last Attack of The Imperial Guard
According to my own research the Middle Guard most definitely did wear an assortment of uniforms and headgear so I will be sticking with Perrys Middle Guard figures.
Dave,
Some recent work has uncovered the Imperial Guard's "state books" for the start of the campaign and these show that there were plentiful bearskins (actually probably goatskins!) and uniforms for the 1st - 4th regiments of grenadiers and chasseurs, with the only shortages being of bicornes and long trousers.
I have to say that I was rather sceptical about this when I first heard of it but I have now seen copies of parts of the documents and they do seem to be pretty solid as sources.
Having said that, I do find the rag-tag units to be rather more interesting and romantic.
