Hello- introduction! The BIG project
I've been an avid British Grenadier player for a couple of years now. I've been a lurker here for a bit, but finally decided to register!
I have a lot of interest in early American history, especially the Revolutionary period. I'm an avid wargamer and have actually recently decided to clear out a lot of my projects to focus more on AWI.
You'll probably start seeing a lot of painting posts in the future from me!
Hi LLM! Welcome! I am looking forward to the photos.
Which scale do you collect, and which campaign(s) do you favor?
I collect 25mm scale- I tend to like the northern campaigns in NY, NJ and Penn a lot, probably because I've lived in those regions for the past 12 years!
Welcome - nice to see the American branch of the "BG family" expanding.
Looking forward to the pictures.
So, onto the BIG project. I've decided to focus on the Saratoga fights as a starting point for collecting my new forces. I recently finished up a great trade with a hoarde of figs coming my way. In order to organize my collecting and painting, I went through the three scenarios in the BG books that are from that period, looked at the orders of battle, then compiled a master shopping/research/painting list based on maximum troop numbers I need to play the scenarios.
It's a lot of figures, but it will be a fun way to approach this. I can take a unit, research the uniforms, paint it, base it, move onto the next. I'll probably alternate British and American so I don't get burned out painting any one scheme.
I have a number of uniform books on the period- but I may post a question here or there if I can't find the unit's uniform description. For example, going over the list, i can't find a description for Dearborn's Light Bn. Any info on that one?
Here are the units, as well as the maximum number of figs required to play the Saratoga, Bemis Hts, & Hubbarton scenarios in the BG books.

I have a number of uniform books on the period- but I may post a question here or there if I can't find the unit's uniform description. For example, going over the list, i can't find a description for Dearborn's Light Bn. Any info on that one?
It was formed from men selected from all of the Continental regiments of the Northern Army, roughly around the time Morgan's rifle contingent arrived from the Main Army. Given the diverse standards of clothing across the various State contingents, I'd make it a mish-mash of whatever you want in terms of "regular" uniforms, with a healthy number of civilian styles and lots of hunting shirts.
If the 11th Mass Cont (16) lookeded really different than the 2nd, 8th, or 9th, I'll paint it up. Otherwise, I may just use these regts and have a flag command to swap out for one of the scenarios.
Was it you that asked about the 2nd, 8th & 9th elsewhere? I seem to recall pulling out some data on these units recently from Katcher and the first volume of the Osprey MAA on Washington's Army. Three deserters from the 11th, recorded in April, May and June 1777, seem to have been wearing a mix of civilian clothing - the first recorded uniform (blue faced red) was not issued until late 1778.
