How are indians mounted?
Do most people mount indians as skirmishers? I was going to do them as 3 to a skirmish stand.
Yes, skirmishers, three per stand>

I base them singly, on 25mm x 25mm stands (being the standard skirmish size), as I think they look odd standing in a row on a 25mm x 75mm base. Although I suppose you don't need to have them standing in a line, but could have a base that keeps the 75mm frontage but has some extra depth.

Under Base Sizes in the rules on page 4 it says 20mm to 30mm frontage per figure. On page 10 the chart at the bottom says 50mm frontage for a 2 fig skirmish base and 75mm for a 3. Which, if any, takes precedence and does the depth of the stand not really matter (within reason)? Does this allow me (p.4) to base the stands from 40mm - 60mm frontage for a 2 fig stand and 60mm - 90mm for a 3 figure stand?

On horses usually from the films I've seen.

Sorryguys, I normally hate flippant repsonses which are off topic - but it's late, I've had a hard day and I couldn't resist.
Y'know... I actually almost rewrote the question for that reason! I understand your predicament and no hard feelings....I had 6 or 7 boys (3 of mine) running around my house destroying things today. I had to leave for a while and let the wife to manage......
The truth is that you can base them pretty much how you want. The three figure 75mm frontage base is simply an easy way to base the poorer type of skirmishers, as it reminds you that you get one firing dice per three figs.
I have to confess, when I saw the title of the thread, I did think I might be writing a response along the lines of 'I don't see Iroquois charging into melee on horseback' :?
Sounds like you've got mayhem breaking out at home ! retreat to the block house in the yard  !

When the indians hit the field, their stands are side by side with no gaps, correct????? :?:
If you want to be precise, yes. The reason is to prevent players enjoying the advantages of skirmish order (such as being harder to hit) without suffering the penalties of dispersing their troops. You can actually use regular infantry on skirmish bases in two ranks as Open Order troops, but that's a whole other matter...
