Jack Absolute
Hello Gents,
It's been a little quiet around here again lately...
Not actually related to wargaming; but is related to AWI:
Has anyone else been reading the CC Humphreys Jack Absolute books?
They are terrific fun; "an eighteenth century James Bond"
The first book (third chronologically but first published) opens with a duel in London but swiftly moves over-the-pond and settles into the AWI , featuring Fort Stanwix/Oriskany and both Saratoga battles,... Historical Fiction of course but splendidly done, with more than just a dash of real personas for the fictional ones to interact with, full of period feel and has a sense of joy about the writing that does make it a real pleasure to read... The other two books are set earlier and cover the FIW/SYW; Quebec, Rogers’ raid on St Francis and then Valencia de Alcantara via a devilish assassination plot... much more to it than that though...
The web link below has excerpts from all three books... It is a shame there are only three...

I saw the first one when it came out in hardback (2004) and thought 'that looks interesting', but hardback prices being what they are forgot about it until October last year... have read all three over the last ten months... worth a go. 8) Commended.

Thank you for the tip. :D
I read the first one and thoroughly enjoyed it. Didn't realise a third had appeared that went into the AWI so that will have to go on the list.
I also read "Washington and Caesar" by Christian Cameron which I found an extremely good piece of AWI fiction. His "Tyrant" books( Not AWI but Ancient Greeks around the Black Sea) are also excellent.
Paul:
The third one (Absolute Honour) is SYW not AWI but still a total wheeze!

I have Cameron's book and have met him - a really knowledgeable guy on the pre- and post-Saratoga frontier campaigns, who runs the re-created Company of Select Marksmen.
Strangely, I have not only never read any of the Jack Absolute books, but I have never actually seen any of them in a library or bookshop.
They are right on Amazon if your interested RTL. :)
I haven't read Jack Absolute either, but have had an eye on them for a while. Something to take to New Zealand next spring, perhaps...
