Jena
Hi Everyone For some rather obscure reasons I am visiting Jena in two weeks time....... more importantly, I shall have the opportunity to walk the fields of glory...so to speak Has anyone been there and can recommend what to see and from where? Cheers Maturin

Have only been through Jena on a train. I seem to recall Weimar is not far from there. Very nice town and well worth a visit.

Never been there myself but fortunately, the Osprey Campaign Series number 20 Jena 1806 has a 3 page battlefield today chapter stating; "In the city of Jena follow road signs for Weimar and Erfurt past the Friedrick Schiller University and drive along the Gothe Allee and Erfurt Strasse (part of Augereau's snail pass) for about 4k before taking the hill road on the right to Cospeda. There is an excellent Battlefield Museum with electronic map , many relics of oct 1806, and a small shop :D Allow at least 30 min for visit." Further directions to Artillery road follow if you can get out of the shop. Then return towards Jena down the Erfurtstrasse, for 3k, before taking a very sharp left into Am Steiger road. Drive up this road and gradually narrowing track !!! for rather more than 1k, always heading uphill through trees and bushes, until further progress becomes impossible ( I should walk) This is the artillery road of the night oct 13/14th You are now on the Landgrafenberg and able to see the Windknollen ridge 400 m ahead. A good view of the area which saw some of the finest fighting by the Prussians against St Hiaires Div is obtained from the crossroads half a kilometre south west from the village of Rodigen.
