Last Nights Game
We played our 4th game last night since I purchased a copy of the rules at Salute. This was the best game so far as everyone now had a good understanding of the rules and were able to play straight from the playsheets with only a small amount of referring to the rules when things came up that had not happened in previous games. The scenario was based on an armoured attck by the Soviets to capture a ridge and clear a couple of villages at its foot. The villages were held by 2 reduced strength companies of Panzergrenadiers who were supported by an armoured counter attack from the ridge by 2 Tiger I's and 4 Pz IV. The Soviets had a full strength Rifle and SMG company plus T-70's, T-34's, KV-1's and a couple of SU-76. The highlight of the game was the attack by 6 T-70's which used the assault move to speed up to the German lines and although they lost a couple of tanks to some concealed PAK 40's these were soon forced to retreat. Meanwhile the Tigers had come down off the ridge through one of the villages but one immediately went low on ammo and the other sufferred a Damaged & Retreat result when one of the T-70's rolled double 6 at close range for defensive fire. They immediately pursued the Tiger in their own turn and another double 6 against it rear armour saw the pussycat burning much to the shame of the German player. Elsewhere the Soviets really srtruggled ot get forward and where they did they were forced back by some accurate artillery fire against the infantry and long range fire from the PzIV of the ridge. A couple of concealed StuG III's helped out as well. We are going to tweak this game and play it again next week. The Germans had some on board 150mm Sig33's which fired every turn and made it difficult for the Soviets to make any headway. We will now limit them to off board artillery only.
