Melee and unit morale modifiers
During the charge phase both defender and attacker test their morale. Concerning the 25% (-2) and 50% (-4) casualties which the units might have suffered, do these casualties refer to the status of the units before the beginning of the charge or during the charge itself? If the latter is the case, this malus would cumulate with the "Each casualty suffered in charge" malus. It does not seem fair, becasue to a single event during the charge (undergoing some casualties) would be applied a double malus. For example, if a French battalion (16 figs) charges a Prussian battalion (20 figs) and the former looses 4 figs (25%) during the Prussian defence fire, the French battalion should have to pass a morale test with a -6 malus (-2 because of the 25% casualties, plus -4 becasuse of the four figs lost). We played a game last night applying the 25%-50% mali only with regard to the status of the battalions before the charging phase. Maybe we were wrong. Which is the correct interpretation? :( Thanks Giuseppe

I think you were right about the rules. If your battalion takes 4 casualties during the charge and this brings it to 25% losses then it is minus 6. However you can do things which reduce it. Having your brigadier within 12" and having a supporting close order unit within 10" to the rear will give you +3 altogether for instance. What I wonder is why you are charging a full strength, fully formed battalion in the first place. Try shooting him up a bit first.
