Newbbie Skirmisher question
Hi all,
In the rules it states that skirmshers cannot advance towards cavalry unless in difficult terrain.
Does this mean:-
1. Any cavalry on the board?
2. Any Cavalry within sight?
3. Any cavalry charge distance?
4. Any cavlary within sight and charge distance
5. Any cavalry within sight, cahrge distnace and capable of charging (e.g. within arc)?
Or some other combination?
Any help much appreciated.
KDE,
Skirmishers may not advance closer than 20cms <12”> from enemy cavalry unless the skirmishers are in cover or buildings.
GdeB Deluxe clarification.

Hi all
May I interject a question here?
I'm not wanting to appear a pedant but merely wishing a clarification on the term 'cover' in the quote above.
Does this mean any terrain providing a 'cover' bonus or more generally difficult terrain that the cavalry can't charge into? (ignoring cossacks of course)
RT
 Ah RT, I sense you are thinking of difficult terrain over/into which cavalry cannot deploy and so whilst not being 'cover' in the sense of giving a cover bonus to the skirmishers, put the same beyond reach of the cavalry.
With some of the terrain we have seen generated by the random method this would allow the skirmishers pretty free rein; or at least provide a pretext for a heated debate  .
Rather than become a complete 'Mr Millimetre', I think the 12" diameter would provide a fairly good and quickly applied guide which would prevent the game becoming bogged down in a minute searching of the rulebook...........
Standing by waiting for fervent denial :!: :!:

RT,
Use the definition of Cover in Chap 8 Terrian.
(Cavalry, other than cossacks, cannot enter cover.)

Oh dear, I know I'm getting into difficult ground now if I'm trying to argue a point in the rules with the rules author...gulp...but here goes...
In chapter 8 on Terrain the point about cavalry not being able to charge is actually under the explanation of the effects of Difficult Terrain.
There is no mention in the Cover section regarding cavalry charges.
I think the problem is that not all difficult terrain will give a 'cover' bonus.
However, all terrain that gives a 'cover' bonus is difficult terrain (sometimes severe)
My point is that an area of boggy ground is classed as difficult terrain but does not provide any 'cover' bonus to troops therein but would preclude cavalry charging into it. So would skirmishers in such terrain feel safe enough to approach cavalry closer than 12"?
Am I incorrect in my assumption that skirmishers will not encroach within 12" of cavalry for fear of being charged and that being in cover/difficult terrain negates that possiblilty?
Great set of rules by the way! :)
regards

RT,
:) You're right & I see where you coming from!
So to be complete use Difficult Terrain, Cover or BUA.
