Perry Welsh Fusiliers
I want to begin ordering some British regiments in the proper campaign dress. All my British to-date are Front Rank Bunker Hill types. I was thinking of starting with Perry's AW 27, Welsh Fusiliers. Is there anything distinctive about these figures that are unique to only the Welsh Fusiliers, or could I use these figures for most of the British infantry regiments? Thanks Mike B

Mike, well these Perry figs are useful guys because they'd got knapsacks and blankets which is a rig that crops up in many general orders etc. Oddly, the other campaign type Perry packs don't have this look. On the other hand they've got three feathers on their hats, the prince of wales' symbol. Its known that they wore hats with this decoration at a review in England in 1784. For other regts, you would want to take those feathers off, or at least take it down to what looked like one feather per hat. EC

Mike, unless you really like the figures and are prepared to lop off the feathers, why not just go with packs AW53-58?

As Eclaireur says, lop off one, two, or all three feathers and you have a very good representation of British light infantry on campaign from 1777 onwards (subject to the standard caveat for AWI uniforms - "as far as we know"). Not only that, but they could also be used - again, sans feathers - as late-war Southern Continentals or State troops. http://www.historicalimagebank.com/gallery/main.php/v/album01/album15/Gaskin_s_Battalion_1781.jpg.html
