GaG - quick question regarding basing from Fire and Fury
Hi all
Just got the Guns at Gettysburg rules , looking forward to my first game.
We have been playing Fire and Fury for a while and have skimped on figures , sometimes basing 4 figures to a stand and sometimes 3 and sometime 5 or even 2 figures to a stand.
Will that be a problem ?
I think we'll just play that each base counts as 4 figures on it regardless ?
Another question is skirmish screens and skirmishers in general.
Do you have seperate skirmish stands with 2 figures on them or something , or just stick a 4 figure base out front and say they are skirmishing ?
thanks
Nobody using their fire and fury figures to play GatG ?
Just thinking I might base my skirmishers on individual bases ? How do you think that would work at 15mm ? Ok ?
Maybe even on round bases and give them an open 360degree fire arc , would that make much difference to the mechanics ?
Any thoughts ?
Keith,
I had originally based my collection for FnF as well. I have not rebased anything and have had no significant issues. I know Dave (Brown) tends to go for about 4 figs to a stand and usually 4 stands to a unit, then adding more stands for larger units. Personally I have standardised on having 5 stands per regiment and having varied numbers of figs per stand, although not usually within a unit. For example most of my Confederate units are either 15 or 20 figures, so 5 x 3figs or 5 x 4 figs. This seems to fit in with what you have in your collection already. When all is said and done I don't think it really matters too much as it's the total number of figs in the unit that counts not how many you have per stand. Smaller regiments generally either get merged together into one or are based as skirmishers in their entirety,.
Regards skirmishers, Dave and I have tended toward basing them in pairs on FnF sized bases. The exception to this is sharpshooters which for some reason we have based in threes! Probably down to the D6 / fig ratio?
Hope this helps?

thanks for the reply :)
I think we'll do each base has 4 hits and 4 figures , because some have 4 figures on them and some have 3 or even 2.
I think we'd end up with some odd frontages of we played off figures , so if we use a standard of 4 it will be easier to count figures for firing etc.
Not sure what to do about deploying skirmishers , we'll have to make up some bases.
I'm thinking single figures , then they can be used to rank up in odd numbered units .
