Skirmishers at Deployment Hello,
have set up for the Iuka game. The Union Brigades all have skirmishers listed and all arrive on table in march column.
My question is, what happens to the skirmishers with regards to their deployment?
Are they considered to be at the head of the brigade columns?
Thanks, Raphael

Hi Raphael,
Units listed as skirmishers in GaG are normally those which are small in number and for covenience represent the bde skirmishers. These can be deployed at the head of the column in march column and thrown forward on the first turn as skirmishers.
Because the 26th Mo had breech-loaders they were in fact used as skirmishers. It is your option to use one or both battalions of the unit as close or skirmish order.
This was one hell of a close range scrap. Good luck with it and let me know how it went.

Iuka - with pictures Hello Paul,
Thanks for the help - now I just have to work out how to order the lone Union cavalry regiment.
The game was an odd mix as it started with a rapid Confederate attack which quite quickly shattered the leading 'green' Union brigade.
Then, daunted by the endless waves of Union re-inforcements the Confederates halted to consider their options before launching another headlong attack.
Meanwhile, the Union commander, disconcerted by the total loss of his lead brigade attempted to use his superior numbers to outflank the enemy.
This lead to much fruitless Union manouevering in the woods while the Confederates stormed the central hill, routed the Union artillery and then pulled back to meet the now slowly emerging Union threat which fizzled out in another series of un-coordinated attacks on the waiting Rebel lines.
Have been able to leave the table set up, so will probably replay it in the near future.

Hey, looks like you had great fun and the wargame went in a similar way to the actual event!
