Small scenarios for beginners
I'm just getting started and am looking for any kind of help or sources that give a good scenario(s) for beginners are there sites etc? Is the Heartland scenario book a good investment to start with or are the scenarios in it larger than a couple of brigades a side, in which case is it worth waiting till I get a larger force (spend the pennies buying troops) Thanks for any help. Just do a points battle for a quick/small game. Set some objectives and a turn limit and off you go.

Have a look at a series of books entitiled "Battles and Leaders of the Civil War" a 4 volume set which is invaluable. There is also a CD available with all the "official records of the American civil war" , though remember that they were often being written by officers in the action to their superior officers and should be read with that in mind! Roanoke Island with 54th Mass coloured regt led by Col Robert Shaw, and zouaves if I recall storm a rebel fort, a great place to start ! There was a film made of this action aswell. have the box of tissues ready when you watch it. Should be compulsory viewing for all who study American History.
