Union haversacks
Hi,
I'm really enjoying painting my new Perry plastics - I've not decided on specific regiments yet but I guess the uniforms are generic enough to represent most regiments anyway (at least the level of detail I'm painting).
A couple of questions; I've been happily painting my Union haversacks in a linen colour (GW's Dheneb Stone) but recently read something about Union haversacks being waterproofed with pitch or something similar, suggesting that they would be black or dark grey. Was this practice so widespread as to be "uniform", or was it down to the individual...? Were untreated haversacks seen often amongst Union regiments?
cheers

Haversacks
Hi Bob,
You were Correct many regiment used Pitch on the haversacks mainly to waterproof the sacks keeping the contents inside dry (don't want wet hardtack). The colour I use is vallejo german grey 995 highlighted with a touch of white.
Also i have used white to make units look different.
Hope this helps,
