I particularly like the Southern campaign Battles: Guilford Courthouse Camden (which offers scope on interpretation of OOBs for the Patriots) Cowpens Several of the "Race to the Dan" battles, preceding GC Hobkirk Hill Ewtaw Springs etc. Reason ? Initially I came to AWI as someone who had been an out-an-out Napoleonic enthusiast for several decades. AWI Southern campaign offered me a refreshing alternative from need to buy, organise and paint an army of 600 - 1500 troops. - Southern campaign is smaller, uniforms still colourful and elegant, - still has a "Horse & Musket" feel, - yet different challenge, since artillery and cavalry do not dominate, there are no large phalanxes of infantry- - and the Southern campaign has a more "intimate" feel with only relatively few infantry battalions. The focus "rings the changes" for me from large Napoleonic games in handling individual battalions, and the effect og "DPs" in BG -There is also scope for quite varied American troop types and qualities. - with many of the Southern campaign battles the units deployed are quite similar and common, so you do not need to build up huge numbers of units to put on different battles. Good luck & enjoy.

The Southern battles also offer the opportunity to field larger units and observe how difficult it is to manoeuvre linear formations over broken ground. You also need to be more careful, as the small number of units gives very little scope for recovery if you mess up.
