Perry Young Guard Voltiguers "at rest"
I have finished half of a regiment of Young Guard figures using the Perry "sitting on their packs" figures - lovely little sculpts and something quite different to paint. I was originally going to have 16 figures in 4 bases but have decided to expand the unit to 24 figures. The bases are the ones that come with the Perry plastics set.

Fantastic painting as always Giles. IMO, gamewise they just would not look right advancing in column whilst sitting down but they sure are eye candy to look at. 8) 8) 8)

Again love your painting Giles, Very nice shading and attention to uniform detail. I chickened out on the collar piping. Cheers Paul

Hi Giles, These guys are fantastic!! I love your AWI stuff but I actually think you have a keener eye for Napoleonic uniforms. I've tried to email you but it comes back as undelivered. Would you please email me if you get a chance. Cheers, Mark Spackman

I was never really keen on these guys, probably because I couldn’t see them going into combat sat on their ar@es. However Giles’s art work does them so much credit, they look superb and once again each figure has his own facial expression. Come on Giles spill the beans enlighten us with your technique for painting faces. Superb stuff. Eugene

:) They could be sat down in an unconcerned apathy at the approaching enemy. "Look Sir, the enemy approaches!".." Ah well, lets have tea first, then we'll have a go at them.." Very nicely done as always, top notch Giles.

Front left: What are we waiting for this time? Front right: Oh, they're all looking through that damn book and arguing about whether we're +2 for Imperial Guard, or just +1 because we're only Young'uns. Back left: I'm more of a Freudian myself. Front left: Shut up, Ronan. Front right: By the way, anyone know what this stuff is I'm supposed to be eating? It looks like a giant blackboard chalk......

anyone know what this stuff is I'm supposed to be eating? It looks like a giant blackboard chalk...... It's bavarian smoked cheese; hence the creamy-yellow coloured middle and the light brown rind! Thanks for the comments, chaps. These figures are purely "for decoration" and are not intended for use "in combat" as such; the idea is that one or two small battalions like this will represent where the entire Young Guard are on the table, to be replaced with "proper" figures one they move into action (of course this assumes use in a game where the table is large enough to have space for decorative at ease figures... :? ). I was intending to do one Voltiguer unit of 24 figures, but might now do two 16-figure units, one each of Voltiguers and Tiraileurs. These are lovely little figures, great fun to paint. IMHO packs like this really make a range.
