HMGS-EAST: Cold Wars March 12-15, 2009- Revolution Theme!!!!
Message: For the Yanks who live in the Mid Atlantic USA or those who are die-hards and have the coin to spend and travel!!! Well i looked through the PEL and I saw a handful of AWI games> None of them are BG! I have an idea I would like to float to the board. Would people be interested in planning a game each year for Cold Wars. I have seen were people came together and agreed to a battle... divi'd up the COC and OB and went at it. Since so many of us a few and far apart ( at least that is the impression I have on this side of the Atlantic). My thoughts are it would be nice to meet in person and play. I know I am terrible at reading an applying rules... I am more of a hands on kind of guy. It would give people something to look forward too. And we could possibly have a GOOD TIME!!!! any thoughts? 12 - 15 March 2009 COLD WARS (Theme: Revolution - 3000 Years of Rebellion, Civil War and Revolutionary Change). Lancaster Host Resort Hotel and Conference Center, Lancaster, PA. POC is Convention Director Frank Preziosa, PO Box 213, Hainesport, NJ 08036, or Email director@coldwars.org. Website for the Lancaster Host, please click here! Games will be scheduled for Thursday night! web site is <www.coldwars.org>

I'm not on any board but I am interested ... and support your call-to-arms, as it were.

I'm not sure that I can make Cold Wars this year. But I do attend Historicon. I am working on hosting some sort of BG! game this summer. Would it be possible to have our BG! group game at Historicon instead? If not, I am going to try to do Guilford Ct. House, Monmouth (the later part) or maybe White Plains at Historicon. It would be a great opportunity to network with other BG! players. Monmouth might be a little larger than I can handle without some help. If we had a group effort we might be able to pull off one of these larger scenarios. Mike Bruck

Mike Bruck Mike, I am not going to be able to put anything on for Cold Wars... yourself and Cornet are the only two members of the boards that have replied. If you would like to put something to gether for Historicon that would be awesome. I would like to get about six guys committed before we reserve a spcae and commit to hosting an event. Stay in touch and any suggestion swould be great. Vaughan Wilson

Let's stay in touch and see what we can do for Historicon. Maybe some of the Brits will be coming over to visit? We would be glad to face them at Guilford Ct. House. :) Now that would make an interesting game ... a few of us Colonials vs. the cream of the UK BG! royalty. :) Mike B

... a few of us Colonials vs. the cream of the UK BG! royalty. I am envisioning RtL arriving in an immaculate, handsomely-tailored Royal Welsh Fusilier parade uniform -- period and campaign accurate (of course). Heck, I would bet he's in full formal Fusilier dress when he buys groceries at his corner store. Edit: Oops, he would never wear the bearskin cap for grocery shopping. That's what the forage cap is for. Sorry!

I'll be at Historicon this year and hope to bring Bunker Hill with me. If any one would like to other battles and are looking for some help I would love to join in. If anyone is in New England Havoc XXV will be held on March 27-29, 2009 at Maironis Park, Shrewsbury, MA. Bunker Hill will be there and the rules will be BG. Rich.

Unfortunately, the £-$ exchange rate is now such that it's us moaning about the cost of everything, otherwise I'm sure a bunch of us would seriously consider hopping over to join in. Our "shows" don't feature the kind of "pick up" games that form the bedrock of your conventions. There's the odd "participation" game if you're lucky (these can be quite good, but are usually short games designed to sell a rule set), but mostly it's slightly narcissistic "demonstration" games. Any of you guys come over to the UK at all, let us know and a few of us will rig up a game for you somewhere. Or if you time it right, there'll be our annual "mega-game" in November. As to my sartorial habits, I would have to sell the house and at least one of my children to afford enough material for a coat big enough to fit me. I doubt anyone would want me as an officer, either (but thanks for the thought). Sadly, the grocery store is still off-limits until the restraining order expires.......

Giles- 01-27-2009

The alternative to having us over would be to buy Perry AWI pack #100 and put our miniature selves on the table.....

Ronan the Librarian- 01-28-2009

Perhaps our American colleagues could submit full-length photos so Alan can make a "Continental" version?

Cornet- 01-28-2009

Huh? I took Giles remark to suggest merely an arbitrary representation. However, RtL seems to suggest that this figure set is actually modeled after some of our contemporary British cousins. Please clarify.

Ronan the Librarian- 01-28-2009

Ooooh yes. And scarily lifelike! http://gilesallison.blogspot.com/2007/01/interrogation-vignette.html (Two year since you painted them, Giles!!!) Giles is the "scribbling Scot", Eclaireur is the aristo Guards officer, Dr Brown (of GdeB fame) is the officer in the yellow facings, Alan Perry is the captive Continental, and I am the very model of a Hessian major-general......

Cornet- 01-28-2009

Ha! That is fantastic! Of course, the vision of you in the Fusilier uniform has been totally eclipsed by this representation. When you arrive, we will be looking for a properly turned out Hessian Major General. That look of disgust is priceless. And I want to see some shine on that gorget, Mister!

Ronan the Librarian- 01-28-2009

OK, if I haven't eaten it (I had mine made of chocolate with silver foil). Giles put me in the uniform of von Lossberg, so I am a Fusilier, just not a Welch one.

mikeb- 01-28-2009

Sounds like the British Army is afraid to come on over. :) Seriously ... If any of you ever get a chance to come to Historicon, it would be well worth the effort. The show runs four days (24 hours a day), tons of shopping, almost all the games allow for participation and Gettysburg is only a 30 minute drive. If you ever think you can make it over ... I would be glad to host a game or two of BG! for you and get you over to Gettysburg if you need a ride. Mike B
