Austrian Grenadier units
I'm busy converting units from Warfare in the age of reason. Currently My Grenadier units are on 4No. 3 figure bases. I Notice on your website you recommend going to 20figures for Austrian Grenadiers. How do you base these? With 4 companies, two each from different regiments, I cannot see any way to base these other than 4 bases of 4, or 4 bases of 6. 3 bases of 6 is a possibility, but I do not really want different uniforms on the same base. Is the solution to use 4 bases, sized for 6 figures but with only 5 figures on each? If I use different sized bases, 2off 6, and 2 off 4, the column is going to look a little odd. Any suggestions?

Just an additional comment. Pengel and Hert give a Grenadier Co as 110 men, presumably plus officers, so three figs per company seems about right. I have not checked Duffy yet. So I may be 'barking up the wrong tree', when I assumed an Austrian Grenadier battalion was 4 companies as per the Prussians. Maybe its 6 or even 8, does anybody know?

Austrian Grenadiers
I am in the midst of the same process. I have been keeping all of my units at four stands for uniformity. My Austrian grenadiers have five figures per stand. I game in 15mm, so my bases are all 25mm deep. Two figure stands are 25mm wide, five figures are 30mm and six figures are 35mm. I use the "extra" space on the five figure stands to add a little detail to the base, such as foliage.

I am also using 15mm. I have actualy kept the WAoR bases, but taken my Kries units from 12 figs to 18 by adding a 6 figure base, double the depth to give me 18figs in two ranks. My Austrian Infantry and larger Kries units were based on 16 figs, 4 bases of 4, as the 18 assumed in WAoR, i could only see being reached if you included the Grenadiers, which were not present. I have therefore taken them to 24's by adding an 8fig base in two ranks. At present I am using the Grenadiers as 18's, 6x3 fig WAoR bases, but am trying to identify what they should be.

Duffy's Army of Marie Teresa is not a great deal of help. It confirms the 110 men/company and mentions that a Grenadier battalion was from 4 to 6 companies. I'm not certain whether the 110 is a peacetime or wartime establishment. I do not have 'Instrument of War', so I do not know if that is more illuminating. Any other info anybody?

I have found an OOB for Lobositz which mentions 34 companies of Grenadiers in 4 battalions, so that would be 8 to 10 companies which would give 20 to 24 figures. This seems to suggest there was no formal organisation and companies were just banded together on an ad hoc basis, unlike the Prussians. It actually ties in with some vague statements I have read elsewhere in connection with the Austrians and also the Kries Grenadier units.
