British Heavy Cavalry, Union Brigade uniform Query
Whilst not exactly admitting to being distracted yet, at the weekend I started adding some colour to my long undercoated 1st Dragoons and 6th Inniskillng Dragoons to add to my Greys and finish the union brigade in time for Waterloo ( Part I left flank) !
My query is this. The G plate in Wellingtons heavy cavalry shows the 6th Dragoons trooper as having white up the front of his jacket and not yellow, the text states 6th Dragoons yellow ** white/silver officers by 1815. So should all the troopers be white or is it just the corporal ?

Its the French cuff flaps that do it to me... Sigh
PS I'm doing an extra 8 1st Dragoons (A squadron of 7 plus a different standard ) so that they can masquerade as the Dragoon Guards in the Household Briage for the Centre action. Please dont anyone tell me they were very different !!!

In the Osprey reference, the yellow is the facing colour and the white/silver is the coat lace for other ranks/officers. So the "white up the front" of the jacket is lace, not facing, and so should be white for all NCOs and troopers (silver for officers).
I might be wrong, but I think the main difference between dragoons and dragoon guards was in the horse furniture, so on campaign (when everyone would tend to have grey blankets with the double blue stripe) it's quite possibly that you could not tell 1st RD and 1st KDG apart - other than from the kind of close examination of the uniform that would not be possible in 28mm!!!
Thanks for that. Thats what I first thought, then I started to have my doubts ! That should make a nice contrast, and less repetition when painting.
Also glad to hear that I wont have to do two lots of Heavy Dragoons with Dark Blue facings :wink:
