New to the Rules
Greetings, I picked up a copy of these rules about a month back and am looking forward to giving them a try. Appears to be good fun. I've gamed Napoleonics for more than 25 years but mostly at the Grand Tactical level so I have some questions relating to tactical formations of the period. Is line and square the only allowable formations for British infantry? I am aware that they didn't use attack columns as the various Continental armies did. As for maneuvering over a battlefield surely they advanced on a more narrow frontage, how does this fit into the game mechanics? Also, reading through the rules I see where Prussian battalions are listed having a strength of 32 figures, 640 men. Most OB's which I have seen show battalion strength @ 800. Anyone using 40 figure Prussian battalions? Thanks in advance.

Regarding Prussians, most of my Line and Reserve infantry units are 40 figures strong; it does not pose a problem.

CYF, Is line and square the only allowable formations for British infantry? I am aware that they didn't use attack columns as the various Continental armies did. As for manoeuvring over a battlefield surely they advanced on a more narrow frontage, how does this fit into the game mechanics? British can use line, column and square without restrictions. So your British are free to manoeuvre in column of companies should they wish. Also, reading through the rules I see where Prussian battalions are listed having a strength of 32 figures, 640 men. Most OB's which I have seen show battalion strength @ 800. Anyone using 40 figure Prussian battalions? Although 32 figure battalions are listed as the average battalion strength you are quite right that many did reach up to 800 - so its perfectly acceptable to field forty figure battalions with each company having 10 figures! DB

DCR Brown said: its perfectly acceptable to field forty figure battalions with each company having 10 figures...and remarkably effective they are too, especially when up against 24 figure French battalions.
