troop ratings
I am patiently waiting for my copy of Die Kriegskunst to arrive. These are surprisingly difficult to get ahold of here in the U.S. While I wait, I have been trying to run some small actions using the playsheets. I was wondering if anyone could help me with some troop ratings. What are hussars? Are they irregular cavalry, or is that what cossaks would be rated? Are most Prussian line units rated veteran? One last question while I am at it. On the playsheet, under the movement section, it says that a charge in 15mm is the distance as movement in line. Is that additional or meant to be the same. The would actually penalize better troops it appears as their line movement distance is greater than their charge distance. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Sorry, can't answer your questions (just going through rules myself) but if any US readers are looking to buy the rules they are available from On Military Matters http://onmilitarymatters.com/pages/ Look under wargaming rules, listed alphabetically by author, 1-89040 Konstam, Angus and Dougie Trail DIE KRIEGSKUNST:Wargaming the Seven Years War . Have ordered from OMM several times, quick, reliable service.

Hussars are classed as "Cavalry" (only Cossacks are 'Irregular Cavalry') for movement; Prussian Infantry line, oddly enough, typically have a Morale classification as 'Line' or 'Veteran'--but it depends on the specific unit and scenario in question. Charge distances are indeed 'less' than 'normal move' in Line formation, by design - it is not an error. See the author's design notes at p.32 when you get your rulebook for more information.
