Ronan Wrote: 1) Figures VERY nicely painted, good group composition on each base, just how I imagine riflemen would have looked Ty,I'm pleased they gave you this impression. :D 2) Bases are exceptional - not just for the water effect, but also because they fly completely in the face of the conventional wisdom that the base should be lighter than the figures, and still more so the smaller the size of the figures (ie 25mm, 15mm, 10mm, 5mm and so on), and it works. It may be that the extra light reflected by the glossy surface compensates in some way? I'm not sure it would work for blue-coated troops, but it certainly does for these guys. Again, your being very kind. :) I always use a dark tone to my bases as I think it gives a great contrast unless I'm painting desert of course.I even prefer dark at 15mm.If your curious,I posted some german WWII mini's at 15mm using my typical dark toned base in this gallery. http://generaldebrigade.greatboard.com/viewtopic.php?t=3701 3) The prone loading figure may well be needing an urgent appointment with his proctologist......... Indeed!

Hi Axe, I should say that the "light" base colour is entirely received wisdom - I believe it reflects the fact that ground colour in real life seems to become lighter as you get higher up. That said, your Germans were excellent, too. Maybe you've found some sort of secret formula.......

Heh,heh...... Seriously,ty again for the compliment.I will say that the dark bases having been growing in popularity and can be seen more often in 25/28m,although I've been doing it for a long time and I'm comfortable with it. :) I think both dark and light work.Light tends to give a more dry appearance and a dark favours a more damp look.I suppose it just comes down to taste. :)
