Henry, Thanks very much, bringing a few smiles up as I move through the photos, I never realised you'd taken so many of the Allied Briefing, what with all the serious faces and Plunkett waving his arms about, people might get the idea we actually had a plan :!:

Thanks Henry, what impressed me was that, if you didn't know the figures, you could easily have assumed you were looking at a 28mm game. I'm also always impressed by the dedication and willpower required to paint those armies - given my dilletante, will o' the wisp attention span I'm scared to look at how many "projects" I have. My New Year's Resolution was to complete the various bits and bobs that were half finished at the end of 2008 (and 2007 if I'm honest). Here we are five months into the year and I can't say I've done too much.

They'll be online permanently, though I may have to change my Internet Service Provider soon as my disk space and bandwidth limits are starting to creak at the seams! I hope some of you noticed the link to the old maps too. It was interesting to discover just how many maps are online.

Just recieved my Battlegames 17. Good article and OB for which thanks DCR . I would have liked a little more detail on the rational for the "trimming" of the OB and perhaps more photos and battle detail , or as you say a little more of a " blow by blow " account. Not the whole battle but just selected parts especially how the strong points of Hougmont , La Haye Sainte and Papellote were handled. Could they be reinforced during the game with Nassau etc or did they have to hold with there starting allocation of forces. Was Hougmont only held by 18 figures of the Gds Lt companies ??? Maybe a cavalry encounter and the last Guard attack DCR . Any chance of a follow up article to submit to Henry ? Please ! You never know it may get even more converts to the Gen de Brigade ruleset ! :wink:

S, There are two reasons why I keep the Refight bit brief. First - because feedback on previous articles has suggested that readers are not too interested in the nitty gritty of battles that they have not participated in; between players who are unknown to them. Basically they don't like the "this is what happened in our battle between me and my mates" storytelling :) Secondly - and most pertinent with this battle was that I was up to my neck in the organisation and thus had very little actual time to view the contest or even play!! In fact Henry probably had a far better idea of what was going on that I did! :oops: Perhaps the real generals of the day could come forward with their accounts and I'll happily compile them into a follow on article if Henry’s content with that. DB

DCR is right. The feedback I get is that people don't mind battle reports if they are short, sweet and to the point, no more than a few paragraphs highlighting the major events, the funny bits if there were any, what was learned from the experience, commentary about the suitability of the rules and tactics used and so on. DCR met my rigorous brief pretty much perfectly. As editor, I have to be careful to balance the magazine and recognise that whilst everyone who attended is passionate about the event, and there are of course a good number of keen Nappy players out there, in a magazine that only has 30-something pages to play with for editorial, the piece claimed nearly a third of that! However, like with the AWI game, I went to the trouble of sifting through and improving nearly 300 photos in the hope that this would satisfy the craving for eye candy from the game. I can't really justify having another article about the same event in the magazine, though I'm sure images from it and references to it will crop up in future pieces, but assuming that a balanced report can be agreed upon, if the participants would like to put together a more detailed write-up that I could put online with those images (perhaps even referring to specific photos by number), then I'd certainly oblige and give the 'virtual space' for it.

Sorry for the delay in replying as i'm on holiday and spend more time painting figures and less time checking my e-mails, also off to Normandy soon for 65th Anniversary events and wreath laying. Will look forward to a few Gronards battle reports for two reasons mainly. 1 To help learn the rules. 2 To learn some sneaky tactics. :shock:
