Engage Order
Can some one advise please. Today a British Brigade advance as a result of an 'engage' order to within musket range of a French line. At this point the British stopped, delivered a volley. Next bound it move towards the French line stopped and delivered a second volley. My position is that once the British stopped, then it had to stay where it was until the French Broke at which point it could take off after them. Am I incorrect in this view? Thanks. Ceara

By the way, I should have said (BOASTED!!!!) I threw five double sixes in todays game. Is that a record? Every time was with my artillery firing on close order troops (falter and all that). Ceara

C, Yes, the brigade may still advance as it sees fit. The requirement of an Engage order is that the brigade must advance until within musketry (or whatever) range. After that it may manoeuvre forward but may not retire (out of musketry range). I.e. once the basic premise of the order has been complied with the brigadier has some flexibility. I'll add a bit of clarity to the rule book. DB
