Question about Basing and companies
I have a question about the four figure base. The rules says that a base of four figures represents two 40 man companies one behind the other. Is this the way troops deployed in the Civil War? I was under the impression that they deployed in two rank lines with the companies all lined up one next to the other. i.e. they didn't deploy two companies deep. Can someone explain this to me? Thanks.

Way i look at it they are one behind the other in column but they are side by side if deploying to close order as either way your are a four figure base ?
