Report: Morning of Monmouth Courthouse. (Game Invite)
This is an after action report to Congress: The troops under the command of Major General Lee caught the British Rear Guard near Monmouth Court House on the morning of Saturday 25th July 2009. The Advance Guard of Brigadier General Wayne: engage the enemy and after completely wiping out the traitorous Queens rangers capturing their colours. The courier has presented to yourselves with this dispatch the action that took place in the orchard. The Advance Guard then went on to capture the Town of Freehold, off the Crown Forces. Losses in this part of the action where: Crown Forces: 340 Killed or Captured, American Forces: 240 Killed or wounded. Meanwhile Colonel Durkee and Brigadier General La Fayette moved to the left flank to engage the returning crown troops. Colonel Durkee deployed first with Brig/Gen La Fayette following in support, what followed can only be described as another 6th Connecticut Militia stand. (See Giles Long Island Report, as he knows what it is like to fight troops lead by me, Martin Small a.k.a. mart678). Rmd detached the elite Grenadiers and Guard units to deal with this threat by La Fayette and Durkee. The casualties speak for themselves, the Grenadiers lost a total of 40 figures or 800 men killed or captured. They then failed a Brigade morale test and were in the processes of withdrawing 30cm, hotly pursued by La Fayette Brigade, which along with Durkee’s had suffered no casualties, when the game ended. We also used the optional rule for reinforcements and rolled a double 6 allowing Brigadier General Dickinson as reinforcements. After the game ended on Saturday we left the scenario set up to hopefully finish on Monday. It is now Wednesday and Cornwallis (Rmd) has failed to show despite living 200 yards away we can only assume that ‘the Crown Forces have accepted defeat!’ Due to being unable to upload photographs of the game onto this forum, I am more than happy to forward all relevant pictures if wanted or needed. Many thanks, American Forces: Martin Small: (Durkee, La Fayette & Dickinson) Anthony Oakley: (General Lee, Wayne, Scott & Maxwell) Crown Forces: Mark Davies: (Cornwallis, Meadows, Matthew, Pattison, Webster & Leslie) Andrew James: (General Sir Henry Clinton, Abercromby & Von Kospoth)

You're not fooling anyone with your damned rebel propaganda, Small! 'Unable to upload photos'... a likely story...

Here we see the British Grenadiers advancing to victory:

And here we see the rebels running away in the face of Cornwallis' Light-Bobs:

The Advance Guard of Brigadier General Wayne: engage the enemy and after completely wiping out the traitorous Queens rangers capturing their colours. ............ I was painting some Queens Rangers this morning. Maybe I should give up on them, the traitorous swine that they are!? :? Great report; nice flavor wording it as a report to Congress. I really enjoyed the casualty figures. Mike B

Britsh Lies!
The camera never lies!!

Gentleman Johnny- 07-29-2009

Mart: Splendid report: expect to see it reprinted vebatim in the London newspapers shortly! Mike B: I also have QR's on the painting table at the moment - waiting for the flags to arrive, I was sure I already had them but never mind... Don't worry, they are not traitorous they are VERY Loyal...!! GJ

mikeb- 07-29-2009

GJ: I'm not sure how I got two sets of them, but: I have a extra Queens Rangers flag set (GMB 28mm). If you would like it e-mail me your address to mbsparta@aol.com and I'll mail it to you right away. Free of course, I just want to see it go to a good home. :D Mike B

Gentleman Johnny- 07-30-2009

Mikeb; THANK YOU! but do not worry - the flags are already ordered. I have to conceed that the GMB ones are SUPERB, but would look a little large on my 1/72's! - I use 15mm flags as the 20mm ones seem too big to me. Your offer is much appreciated non-the-less 8) . GJ

Even though I was trying to find someone to entrust the keeping of the recently captured Queens Rangers Colours in the Orchard I could still see the Grenadiers running and hear the jubilant cries of my Continental brethren!

Interesting scenario. I have to admit I haven't been able to fully read both scenario books since I purchased them. Is this one of those scenarios, or one of your own? I have been thinking of doing a Monmouth game and this looks appealing. If it is your own would you mind sharing the full OBs? I have a historical OB, but I'd be very interested in your ratings.

senario
the senario we used was the morning action from the 2 senario book the only difference was i missed checked the table size so instead of 10ftx6ft we used a 12ftx6ft but this meant we ended up with an 8ft plus column of british troops marching to the sound of the guns.

Allan Wright- 07-30-2009

Thank you. I have the 2nd book, I'll check it out tonight when I get home from work. I bought a bunch or rules, etc. at Historicon. I'm only about 2/3rds of the way through the BG! rulebook, but I'll skip ahead and read the Monmouth scenario from the 2nd book.

mikeb- 07-30-2009

If the BG! rule book is like a strip club; the scenario books are like the strippers: to die for! Confucious
