retreating troops shooting
We just had an incident crop up in my last game that caused some discussion.
My oponent charged a unit of mine.
They failed to contact with there first die roll so I fired and caused 3 hits (that took him to 3DP and 1 casualty.
In the test to charge home he failed and got a retreat result (in the next compulsory move phase).
He then argued that he could now fire in the shooting phase although retreating troops cant shoot, because he hadnt actually done his compulsory move yet so was free to shoot because he had only made a half move .
I said the retreat took effect immediately and although he hadnt moved yet they still counted as retreating
Was I right

Hello Trojan,
I'd have thought someone would have answered by now, so as not to keep you waiting; we play it that the retreat status takes precidence over the Charge order. They have been stopped in their tracks and to do that once an order to run at the enemy positions has been issued will not result in an orderly line-forming and volley. Retreat relates to status not just movement.

Yes,you are absolutely correct in my opinion, for reasons that both you and GJ explained.
