Rule query
Hi, Posting on a Napoleonic site, well this is a first! I asked this question on the BG site as that was the game the query originated on but I was hoping for an official response and I am reliably informed the rule in question exists in GdeB. You are required to take a morale test if fired on into the rear of your unit. Now the question is do you test if just fired on from the rear or must there be an actual result from the fire? In the game I umpired I ruled there must be an actual effect on the unit in question(a casualty or DP) but one of the players suggested the rule implied that being fired on in itself required the test. Thoughts? Thanks Paul

Hi Paul If I remember correctly, it was the response to be ing fired on whether they hit or not. It makes sense that a morale test would need to be taken. The same rule applies in GdB and we have played it that a test is taken. This led to a funny situation a few weeks back when a unit declared a charge and was fired at by the target to the front and a unit that was behind downhill of the charging unit. The unit downhill was out of charge range, but within musketry (long range). As a morale test is taken to charge, this did not cause a separate test for the shot in the back. The unit failed to charge anyway. So i would say if fired at in the back, a test should be taken. That is how we would play it. Cheers Kev

K, Correct - if you are fired at from the rear you test - regardless of whether casualties are inflicted. Though in GdeB Deluxe this is to be replaced with: Threatened Flank (Formed close order enemy unit/s behind units flank or rear & within 15cms. N/A if in squares/buildings.) DB
