Saxon's
Another unit finished, wont be long and I will have enough to have a game. Hopefully before I go mad

Congratulations. Are these Austrian allies or sullen conscripts in the Prussian army? I'm not sure about what the Saxons did in the seven years war.

Austrian allies, looking for revenge,

I wish I could reproduce the basing. How did you do it?

Very nice painting I wish I could do as well. Technically though after Pirna in 1756 and Saxon infantry not part of the Prussian army ended up with the French while their surviving cavalry ended up with the Austrians.

There were about thirteen battalion of Saxons at Minden on the French side. They do not appear to have been particularly aggressive. At First Torgau, a small battle between Kries and Prussians, there were two battalions of Saxons. After 'incorporation' into the Prussian Army as whole units, many units defected wholsale to the Austrians, who reequiped them. Some units were in Poland and missed Pirna, so passed directly to the Austrians.

Hi Chris, can you tell me which Saxon infantry battalions were at Torgau, I know that Saxon cavalry, that is the Karabiniergarde, Graf Brühl, Prinz Albrecht, and Prinz Karl chevaulegers were present but it would be nice if I could also field some Saxon infantry.

Thanks for your nice comments. I am basing my armies on the battle of Minden as a way of giving me some direction, That doesnt mean I am doing all the regiments, just enough to have some games, as there is no one else at the club interested enough to do an army I am lumbered with doing both sides. As for my bases thats dead easy, building sand dry brushed then Mininatur flock the 6.5mm late fall stuff, put drops of white glue where you want it drop on the flock, turn upside down and tap it, and it stands up nicely. and that is it. Doing a unit of Hanivarians at the moment managing to knock out 1 unit per week, so not much longer and I can have a game

Skaren, I think you have the wrong Torgau, this was 8th Sept 1759. Only Kries and Austrian Cavalry involved, plus two Saxon battalions (no ID I'm afraid) See Duffy, By Force of Arms, page185. Since all the Kries infantry (and Saxons?), apart from Hesse Darmstat, who covered their retreat, more or less ran away, I suspect none of the regimental histories are likely to mention their presence. However, in my veiw the Austrian Generalship (St Andre) was apalling for allowing the Prussians to attack his infantry line in the rear, and having no reserve. It makes a very good refight, however I think some thing is missing from Duffy's description, as I do not beleive that 3 squadrons of Prussian dragoons can upset two crack Austrian cuirassier regts and 5 or 6 squadrons of Kries cavalry, even if the latter are disordered. We allowed the Prussians 3 regts of dragoons.

Yep, wrong Torgau, (3 November 1760 is what I was thinking of) some of these places have had way to many battles fought near them.
