Scenario book 3 - Eggmuhl
Can anyone tell me what table size is required for this scenario using 15mm figures, ie what scale is the map drawn to?

I am supprised to not get a response to this. Do the authors/editors/designers of these rules not follow this forum? Or have I just been an idiot and not spotted where in the suppliment the info is given?
Help please!

Hi DJC,
We are actually quite fortunate that our questions are answered by the rule writers more often than not on the forum whenever possible. I think sometimes real life and other diversions such as work etc can get in the way of getting to the forum on a daily basis.
The First Scenario supplement states that for all games under the section TABLE SIZE on page four "This is shown as either 6' x 5' or 6' x 4' - this is the minimum requirement - but there is nothing to stop players using a larger playing surface if preferred".
I would assume this would be the case for all of the games.
Too easy.
Cheers and best of luck

Yes, Far too easy :)
I spotted this in the first book, but you clearly cant fit the troops from the Eggmuhl battle onto a 6x4. Also, I could have googled the map and tried to work it out for myself, but as I dont know if the OOBs are a true 1 to 1 representation of the battalions involved in the actual battle, or a scaled down version thereof, it doesnt really help me.
I suppose I could do all the research myself, but it kind of defeats the object of buying the scenario books in the first place.

D,
I believe the Eggmuhl table size may have deliberately not been mentioned as it’s such a large battle it has to be dictated by what the players can actually accommodate.
For instance when I was invited to partake in this battle the gaming table was 16 feet by 24 feet!!
Obviously most players are not going to be able to manage that but it is envisaged it will be usually be played by a group of players or club over a full day or weekend on what ever tables they can muster or deem suitable.
BTW 6 x 4 would be a bit too small.

Orange and I did a refight of part of this battle last year.
The table was about 6x4 and a very good game it was too!!

Hi Maturin, DJC and DB,
I must admit to thinking of exactly this topic when replying to the question orginally as we also refought this particular part of the battle in 28mm on a 12 x 6 foot table.
We were suitably inspired by Orange and Maturins game and battle report though those damned French ruined everything again (as usual!).

Maturin,
Thats a really inspiring post!!!!!
Just the kind of report that makes me want to paint more figures and get them into action.
I'm relatively new to GdB and I missed this one the first time round.
Thanks for posting it agin.

Yeah, we believe you
We can give this one ago next time you are at the club, if you fancy it, Billy certainly doesn't like those big Austrian battalions

That would be great Gary.
As long as I can just stand, fire and run away when required!

P.S. Thanks for the tip on the Magnetic strip it will save us a small fortune.

My apologies for not scouring every thread on every forum on a daily basis, just in case someone might want me...
The game is BIG. Dr Brown's memory is slightly fuzzy (he has been trying to forget his assault on Eggmuehl Bridge for nearly ten years, after all), as the map covers 16 feet vertically x 14 feet horizontally and we played it over three parallel 16-foot tables.
Yes, it is a mega-game and I make no apologies for that - it's nice to have something to aspire to, sometimes. However, it can be divided up into several separate scenarios - the game itself virtually became five or six entirely separate divisional-sized battles.

Just to add: It's been ten years since I stuck the game together and to the best of my recollection, every unit is in the scenario, though I've left out the rest of Napoleon's southern column, or you'd have another Franco-German corps, which wouldn't get into action before the end of the battle.
The Austrian IR#3, Grenadiere and Kurassiere are optional forces, though there is some historical justification for their inclusion, as mentioned in the scenario notes.
