Table size
Hello people, Here is something I have not seen asked before, and to be honest I can not make up my mind. The problem I have is, my new wargames room is nearly finished, but what size table do I use, the choices are 6x6 or 8x4, it has to be one or the other, and no I cant move and swap as needs change, once up it stays up. I wargame in 28mm so you see my dilema. Any advice would be great.

Hello, Personally, I would go for 8' x 4'. This would give you space to develop some flank attacks. You can keep reserve troops off table if depth is a problem and bring them on as they are committed. Tony

I am aware that 1200 deep (or 4 feet) is used quite often for 28mm but this means that most units are within artillery range from the outset. I think under more ideal circumstances perhaps 1500 might be a minimum depth. Schultz

You do have to be able to reach every part of the table when it is covered in scenery to move figures place the sceneray etc without knocking everything over and without causing yourself injury either.

I would go for the 6x 6, you can always deploy diagonally, which gives you a good 8 ft of usable front line. Also this way there is always some dept to deploy and maneuvre. With the 8x4 table I feel one is limited to line up and attack style gaming. Ideally, if physically possible, I'd go for 8x6...(and then I woke up and it was all a dream). Peter

I'd knock down a wall and insist on a 12 foot wide table  serious answer - Being a pessimist I have to say that I don't think 4" is deep enough to accomodate the move required for a routing brigade - a whopping 30cms in 15mm and probably more in 28mm

see what I mean, its not an easy question. In fact I may give up and take up knitting.

I would go for a 6 x 6. I have in my room a 8 x 6 and four of us play. when 2 of us play we use 6 x 6, and it is ample. ps we play in 28mm. Check out our site pics..

Send a child to boarding school and convert their room into a wargames room. Then you can have a table as large as the room allows. :D

I use an 8 x 5 for playing at home. It gets over the problems of the 8x6 that can be hard to reach accross and has more depth than an 8x4. Its a good compromise. I made mine in two 5x4 sections so I can do a 10 x 4 if needed... At the club we generally use 8 x 6 table.
