Tank Encounter in the Sandstorm
Tank Encounter in the Sandstorm – Game at South London Warlords, BGPG rules. It was just a quick and simple desert game with Valentines, Stuarts, and Rommel's Panzer IIIs emerging out of a sandstorm……. And maybe because of the speeed of the senario, it showed quite brutally how simple tactical decisions in a game can bring death or glory remarkably quickly. Be interested how anyone else would have played it. Very nicely photographed! Looks like it was good fun - did you play the Valentines as slow/armour D or medium/armour E as in the book list?

Hello Alex, DB said the Valentine III was a slow, D armour, didn't he? Though the book says its a medium speed, E armour, as you point out. We just used the book numbers: it was a game at the end of the day, after another had finished. It seemed fair enough, since more of the Panzer IIIs there were armour category F...... my opponent just needed to get stuck in to the Panzers rear much earlier I reckon. Perhaps the confusion about the Valentine is in the fact it was up-armoured during its life - and it had a long life: 8000 were made up till '44. Fun game though and though the lack of air-power allowed for the slightly bunched-up look and our lack of nouce led to some mistakes, nevertheless the rules made us think of the real-life tactics we would have used if we'd been a bit sharper...which is a mark of some good rules.
