The Hundred Days - Not Wargaming Related
As the wargaming scene has gone quiet for a few weeks I have decided to do a bit of reading, and as political history is an interest I have been after a book that looks at the political side of things during the 100 Days. Particularly, something which has some reliable quotes (preferably referenced). Needs to be in English as I am unhappily unilingual. The sort of things I am after are the responses of Louis XVIII to the news of Napoleon landing, the proclamation of Ney to his soldiers when deciding to desert the Bourbons etc. At present I have two unreferenced books, both of which contradict each other. Also, after a decent book about Ligny and Quatre Bras. I have more than enough about Waterloo itself, but all simply skim over these two battles. Cheers, in advance, Anthony

Peter Hofschroers book Covers Ligny and Quatre Bras very well, though some would say a little Prussian Biased, then the companion volume goes on to cover Wavre and Waterloo.

Cheers, I did think about getting this. From what I have heard it is a little controversial but the basic research is good. Anthony

The newer Osprey books on the Dutch and Belgians also give good accounts of their contributions to Quatre Bras

For an entertaining romp through the 'political side' of things towards the end of the Napoleonic wars, look out for Adam Zamoyski's Rites of Peace. Starting from events leading up to the initial 'Congress of Vienna', through the interruption of the Hundred Days--all the politicos, spies, plots, egos, mistresses, subterfuge, etc. that one could hope for.

Just spotted this new book on JC's Quatre Bras website, and the good news is that he appears to be back, seems he was somewhat distracted by the fairer sex for a while. Marriage is a short term arrangement for for having children, wheras wargaming is for life... http://astore.amazon.co.uk/thewaterlooca-21 Added to my christmas list :D
