Typical force sizes
Hey just bought a copy of BG: PzG, cant wait to check it out. realizing now that a 2nd edition is coming out soon, do you think that the updates will be available here for those that may not want to purchase the 2nd edition. I'm thinking that I'd like to do 20mm and I would like to get started collecting a force now. What is a good typical starting force size. I'm looking at AB's stuff: Ten man squads, and Hat Armor and Guns, which are a hell of a deal. Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

Well, I don't play 20mm - I play 15 (I think it allows for larger games and more use of terrain etc. with smaller games) - one of my big bugbears with 20-28mm is that you simply can't do much tactical manouver, especially with tanks, and all ranges seem so compressed. If you play at about '1000 points' as per the list in the bg:pg book, you should find yourself with a full company of infantry, some artillery (2-4 guns) & AT guns (2-4 guns), and 4 armoured vehicles. That's a pretty good place to start as it allows you to play most scenarios or just pitch a roughly balanced battle. But all told now I have: 3 Companies of infantry (late or early war) 2 Companies of elite infantry (paras, SAS etc.) A battalion of various tanks (3 sets of 4 each) plus some spare. Batteries of 2, 6 and 17 pdrs, half battery of 75mm infantry guns, full battery of 25 pdrs with tows. Jeeps and the odd truck for transport. Couple of armoured cars.

Company sizes
Hey thanks a lot Alex. I have to apologize but I'm not sure what exactly a company of infantry is. You see I am at heart a Seven Years War man, just getting into the WWII stuff. Is a company about 4 or 5 squads comprising company HQ and heavy weapons? I'm in a bit of a toss up about which scale to go with. It seems that the most popular is 15 mm. What companies do people use for 15 mm? Thanks Again

A company (I use british early war for an example as that's what I play - see also my pics on the gallery page as they're organised in companies) consists of: A company command element (I typically put a jeep and a few officers on a 2x2inch base) Command stand (a platoon commander for lack of a better term) - I generally use 2 officer figures per 1 inch square. 3 stands of rifles, generally 3 men per 1 inch square Command stand 3 rifles Command stand 2 rifles 1 bren gunner Command stand 1 vickers gun 1 2 inch mortar 1 Boys AT rifle For 15mm your best bet for cheap minis is Skytrex, who do fantastic 50 figure bags on the cheap. For the best models (and well worth the extra expenditure) try Peter Pig. For tanks, try Flames of War, though Peter Pig and Skytrex do some models that FoW simply don't have yet. Skytrex tanks tend to be slightly smaller in all dimensions than the FoW versions.
