Victrix Gordon HighlandersHello,
New scale new period:

I had a feeling this would happen... I’d been able to resist for quite some time; but the Highlanders were just too tempting.
I’ve been driven by a biological need to paint Kilmarnock Bonnets and Kilts.
Feel a bit better now.

There has been comment elsewhere on the forum regarding Victrix figures base-footprint-size and some of them ARE quite big. But, the plastic
cuts easily with a scalpel and of the 30 in this battalion I only needed to trim 12 - This is only half the figures in the box, so there is a second battalion
(on the move) and of them only two needed trimming.
The faces are obviously of a different style to Perry sculpts; but don’t worry they are not all caricatures of Sid James entering a Gurning Competition. The ‘shouting head’ is possibly a bit overdone, and one fellow has rather bulging eyes, but I didn’t generally find them too overstated. However; I did spot
John Laurie and Bob Willis (I think?!) among the assorted heads...
What you ask is Stapleton Cotton doing there?

Not much; other than having come off the Half-Pay-List that is the painting pile. He’s been languishing there since being presented free with
Wargames Illustrated in whatever year it was and it seemed a good time to paint him. I referenced the National Portrait Gallery (Thomas Heaphy)
for his uniform detail,

but felt that his horse was too ‘white’ so he is riding a Horse-of-Hungarian-Linage named Rupert, that my wife rode while on holiday last month...
It’s OK.
I can resist.
I’ve NOT been looking at Battalion strengths for the rest of the 5th Infantry Division or Hanovarian Landwehr uniforms at all...
:D That umbrella is dandy though.
