Hello,
Zvezda have released their Prussian Grenadiers for the SYW, they are 25mm foot to eye so possibly a bit small to mix with 28mm figs but would fit well with the older figs... And would be a complete unit anyway so there is no need to mix...
40figs (ignore the standard bearer) for aroung the £6.00 mark ...
The review link says it all really, but they are on the whole very nice, if admittedly a bit big for 1/72 which is what the site is dedicated to, hence the grumpyness about size.
Scale creepage is definatley affecting the 1/72 figure manufacturers.
However, I bought two boxes three weeks ago and will be (eventually) painting them up as Rall's chaps - I wasn't going to do any more 'Hessians' after finishing off (all) the Brunswickers, but thought they needed encouraging - fusiliers next?
I'd been waiting for these to get reviewed, their photo's are pretty good and I know it will be a while before I've painted them up...

GJ,
How are these going?
The standard bearer would make a good sergeant, although the main body of Rall's regiment did have colours (unusually for a "grenadier" unit).
From the look of them, some figures - eg the two "charge bayonets" poses - have a separate right arm; you could use one of these to vary the pose of an officer (and arm him more appropriately). _________________ You can lead a horse to water, but a toy soldier can no longer be lead (due to Health & Safety Regulations). |

RtL, Not started them yet there is quite a pile ahead of them, but I must say I'm looking forward to them! They are a great improvement on the old Revell figures that I already have, but they are (as the review points out) scale consistant with them... There are indeed separate arms - typical of Zvezda - and that is not a bad idea at all about using them to make officers musket/fusil armed... 8) will file that away for later...
Intersting about Rall's chaps having colours - was this his own decision?

Rall's unit was a permanent one, rather than an ad hoc grenadier battalion formed from companies from several regiments in the field, and hence had its own colours. It was a long-standing unit, originally formed early in the 18th Century from the grenadier companies of the Landmiliz regiments (rather similar to the Grenadiers de France). _________________ You can lead a horse to water, but a toy soldier can no longer be lead (due to Health & Safety Regulations). |
