I was reading the thread on batch-painting, and I was comparing the way some people go about this in a sort of industrial way, with my pitifully slow methods. Then I wondered, how many units have most of us got?
Including cavalry regiments, infantry battalions, and batteries, I've got 8 units. Yeah, not very impressive.
Please only include units you have painted yourself.
Yours,
James D. Gray |

No, total for all your different armies in the Napoleonic period, based for GdB.

S,
I mis-read this at first reading and almost deleted it as unsavoury spam!

Unsavoury spam? Is that the reduced salt variety?

James,
the unwanted fallout of such a survey is the realisation that I have so many incomplete units... at least half of my army is understrength.
Maybe I should change my painting style to the "industrial" assembly line approach.
I will not count the masses of schoolboy 25mm minifigs in the cellar. _________________ Cheers,

Indeed the temptation was there . Lannes it's not about size, it's how you use it.
Better a small flexible army, than a large one which isn't very manoeverable. _________________ Cheers,

James,
I have painted very little of my current collection of units, I have bought them painted. However I raised the money to buy them by selling off my collection of 25mm stuff, all of which I did paint myself, so do I get a technical bye or is it a foot in touch :
Cheers, Gary |

Its not just having an industrial painting factory that helps in the figure count, the more significant factor is time or age!
Like all factories, the more modern, the more streamlined the production should be. My factory was established in 1982 and is now a bit antiquitated
Despite the fact it's produced about 8,000 Napoleonics there's still quite a few to paint yet and still avery long wanted list |

hi John
It seems ludicrous but it just grew
It started with Brits and French
British would be close to 20 unts infantry 30 or 40 strong with 8 units of cavalry, French is a bit larger particularly with the young guard of 8 battalions just having been completed.
French Allies generally number around 6-8 battalions/nation with additional cavalry - Wurttembourgers, saxons, confederation french, Poles, westphalians and Italians
Then I have a decent Russian and Austrian Force and a few Prussians.
At the moment I'm concentrating on command sets
The quality of the painting has varied to the extent that I'm now stripping and repainting some of the eariler figures.
I've had some unpainted spaniards and portugese for about a year.
I did decide to stick them all on a table to see what they look like. I'll post some pics here at some stage but a few pics can be found at

Rudorff;
In the end it's up to you. The spirit of the poll is to measure people's painting prowess (PPP).
My PPP is feeling smaller by the minute.

| Assuming that I can sneak my "British Grenadier" forces into the survey, I reckon I just about scrape into the top bracket with 63 units. That breaks down into 25 American units, 22 battalions of Brits, 5 battalions of Hessians, 2 of loyalists, 3 units of cavalry, 3 batteries of artillery (5 guns per battery) and 3 "tribes" of Indians. However, some of these "units" consist of only 6 figures and most are between 16 and 24 figures. That's well over 1,000 25mm figs in total though. |
