Gents,
I got my set today and very impressive they look too, well up to the recent standard of Caliver productions.
I realise that as a member of the 'GdB rule writers hippy funk collective' I may be slightly ahead of others in the queue - but I can't believe by more than a day or two.
I applaud the author, 'Tricorne', for using such an elegant nom de guerre Very Happy
p.s. he has also managed to get the words 'w@nker' and 'buggers' into the rules, naturally in the form of accurate historical quotation, so maybe these should be the first in the GdB family to have a 12A certificate ?!

Eclaireur,

Yes, they do look spiffing, although they've retained the Partizan Press tradition of typos in critical places. I would also suggest that "sad anorak collective" is probably more appropriate than "hippy funk"...

It's arrived in New Zealand, and a quick flick through reveals it to be an impessive tome.

A drink to Old Fritz!! Shocked

Peter,

I'd sooner you toasted the Empress (either one), but I suppose the world needs Prussian players too...

I have noticed with concern your pro Russian tendencies for some time Mr Konstam ... or is it really Mr Konstamovich?! Shocked

Perhaps we need to get Mr Hoover back for a quick check on your resume?!! Evil or Very Mad

Very Happy

I have both Prussian and Austrian miniature troops under my (semi) control so I guess I could toast the Hapsburg Empress. It's just that Old Fritz seems to epitomise the period so much more. Wink

Dear "von" Peter,

I'd suggest that the addition of the "von" into your handle is hardly a shining example of lack of neutrality!

Well, I have to admit, I have a slight Russian bias when it comes to wargaming, probably because their tactics (or lack of 'em) suit my wargaming style!

I also rather share Mr. Duffy's view of Frederick's Prussia, when he described the Battle of Kolin as "a victory for humanity"...

Besides, playing the Prussians means you're usually expected to win. Playing the underdogs (in my case the Russians or French) means that great things are rarely expected of you, and victories are all the sweeter.

Best,

Angus

Touché Angus Wink

I remember reading Duffy books many years ago (The Army of Frederick the Great specifically I suspect) and learning for the first time some unpleasant realities about the great man. Then again he could be quite hard on himself as well. I also found it interesting how the culture (ethics?) of the Prussian officer class meant that they mostly would not do whatever was ordered if they considered it outside the bounds of decency ... even though they knew that to do so would cost them their career in the Prussian military. Just some ramblings from old memories dredged up.

BTW aint Mr Duffy a great author? I find him very readable yet still packed full information. Hopefully his latest offering (Art of War?) is winging it's way to me even as I type.

Salute
