Hi All,
Latest batch of AWI stuff I have been working on, British Light Infantry and American militia. I have done this set up around a couple of buildings that I got the talented Colin Rush to make up for me, Wrights Tavern at Concord and a typical Bell Tower from the period.

Absolutely SPLENDID stuff!
Judging by the size of the 'Hovels'-house that tavern must BE H U G E!

Jaw-droppingly good! Shocked

Absolutely wonderful- thanks for posting those. To echo Gentleman Johnny, Where on earth do those buildings live when you're not playing?

A very impressive layout, great figures excellent stuff. You look to have managed to improve the lighting as the pictures look very clear. Inspiring work, I have managed, to date, to walk by the AWI bits on the Perry’s stand but pictures like this make them very tempting.

Thanks Chaps for your kind remarks. Very Happy
The Tavern is a rather large peice, so I had to ask Colin Rush to make it for me without his usual extra ground work that he puts around his buildings.
I have built my table quite high so that I have to stand on a box to reach into the middle but then this gives me three levels of storage, so I should be okay as long as I keep away from anymore Taverns.
Yes I am happy with the lighting now Very Happy I have two daylight tubes fitted above and they seem to do the trick. Go on take the plunge with the AWI Wink

Absolutely superb, nice set-up and lovely brush work on the figures (no blue-coated 4th Foot musicians, and black belts all round - well done!!!). You are to be heartily congratulated.

Interesting how big the tavern looks next to the commercially-produced building on the left (from the British viewpoint). You've obviously been busy with the kitty-litter as well, judging by all those walls! And a fine choice of backdrop, too.

Btw, where did the mounted figure in the cloak, waving his hat, come from? Looks like a Front Rank, but must be a Nap.......

Thanks Ronan.
I try to get the uniforms right and thanks to yourself and Giles, you make it a lot easier for us. I find what takes up quite a bit of actual time when painting figures is you have to keep stopping and doing your research when about to paint a certain piece of equipment. Pictures in books might only give a front or side view of the uniform but thankfully by scanning through pictures of Giles blog and from the feedback you have given to many of the questions on this forum I can usually find what I am looking for.
The mounted figure with the cloak I bought at the Bring and Buy at Salute this year with a load of other AWI figures. There was a mixture of Front Rank and Old Glory figures and this figure was amongst them. I think he is OG and he has a tricorn hat so I don't think he is Napoleonic. I will try and take a close up picture and submit to this post.
Look forward to meeting you at the Long Island game,
Pat.

Ronan asked what figure the mounted figure was. I have attached a few close up pictures along with pictures of some other figures that I picked up at the B & B at Salute and then painted. Again not sure but think they are OG but as they were going cheap they will do fine. The guy holding the GMB flag was originally holding a rifle but thought he would make a suitable standard bearer. Perry's and Foundry are my favourite though.

SW,

Thanks, I thought it might be a conversion, but seeing the new photos, it's obviously an OG horse - probably one from their two AWI "mounted generals" packs. The standard bearer is also obviously OG, but the guy on foot waving his hat I've not seen before.

Looking through the first batch of pics again, the militia are all in "sober" colours - various browns and grey/undyed, with some dark blues and the occasional green - which are the exact same mixtures that occur in virtually all of the deserter reports where the "runner" is obviously wearing civilian clothes rather than military uniforms.

Btw, I have some photos of the actual Buckman Tavern, if your friendly local "architect" is interested in doing some more work for you.

Yes, looking forward to Long Island!

The guy waving his hat looks to me like one of the Prussians from the old Falcon (USA) range from WAAAY back in the mid 1980's.

RtL

Thanks for the confirmation on the OG figures.

Pleased to hear I am on the right track with the militia colours. I will be painting up more militia for Lexington and Concord and was wondering if the Perry Southern Militia would be suitable, as they are great figures but some of them are barefooted?

The building I am using for Buckman's Tavern I picked up from the OG stand a few years ago, I think the company were called Hudson and Allen. It was supposed to be an European Manor House but I tried painting it up to fit in more with the America's. I also made several Tavern signs for it which you can just pop in or out to suit the period/location.
There are a couple of prints in the Osprey campaign series 'Boston 1775' showing the Buckman Tavern with its outbuildings. I thought this building might do the trick as it has outbuildings but I would love to see your photos to see how far off the mark I am. Having said that, I will probably carry on using this one as there are a lot of buildings/battles I have to get through before I get to the end of the war. Wink

I have attached a few pictures of the building (extra Tavern sign of the swan on the ground)

Robert, Thanks for the info on the figure holding the hat. I think you are right about it coming from the 80's as it is quite small, more 25mm than 28mm - 30mm. Great Blog BTW.

Lovely stuff, Pat! Very Happy

That mounted figure is indeed an Old Glory sculpt, from the British mounted general/officers set.
