|
On behalf of all the players, thanks to the two GMs for their hard work, patience and all round "good eggishness" which produced (IMO) a superb weekend.
The general consensus appearing to be that we'd like to do it again, it would be useful if all participants would take a few minutes to consider the questions below (I've left it that a simple Yes/No response is possible, but feel free to comment further). Don't hesitate to PM your answers to me if you prefer.
Thanks.
RtL
1) Would you participate again next year?
2) Were you happy with the venue generally?
3) Was the overall cost (ie games + hotel) ok?
4) Was the level/quality of catering ok?
5) Was the location convenient?
6) Was the date convenient (the aim was to avoid SELWG/Warfare)?
7) Should we investigate similar weekends for the other "GdeB" rules?
8) Any specific areas that could be improved/changed? _________________ You can lead a horse to water, but a toy soldier can no longer be lead (due to Health & Safety Regulations). |

Yes, actually better than expected, no Czech beer though 8)
5) Was the location convenient?
No, but then just about anywhere well south of us is going to be inconvenient so it's an accepted part of taking part.
6) Was the date convenient (the aim was to avoid SELWG/Warfare)?
Yes
7) Should we investigate similar weekends for the other "GdeB" rules?
No strong view, I have only a passing interest in the other periods, but if the others wanted to give it a go I'd probably bend under pressure to make up the numbers.
8 ) Any specific areas that could be improved/changed?
From my point of view it was better than the last NAM game; it was a pleasure to play with lovely figures on one of the best tables I've seen, never mind been allowed to play on. I'd obvious not like a 7 hour drive to get home, but that won't stop me coming back next time.

Yes - but no later in November
7) Should we investigate similar weekends for the other "GdeB" rules?
Yes, although I would always give Napoleonics a priority

We ended up getting a little bogged down on rules related argument/discussion at our end of the table. I would suggest three umpires for a game the size of Waterloo - each with a responsibility for a specific section of the table (except if one section has both Tim and Dougie on it, in which case we need at least three umpires allocated to that specific part of the table) |

Ronan:
Questions 1-7: Yes to all, with the subjective caveat that non-horse & musket periods have limited appeal for me.
Potential Areas for Improvement: Again, completely subjective, due to my hearing impairment, just wondering whether different games might be conducted in 'separate' rooms to reduce the overall noise level? (Being in the centre of the Waterloo board between two dozen players for two days, I found it very challenging to simply hear the other players next to, and across from me, despite having two rather expensive hearing aids.) If this perception is not a 'shared' one, however, it will simply be up to me to work around it. _________________ Bryce Allen |

1) Would you participate again next year?
yes
2) Were you happy with the venue generally?
Yes - but missed the atmosphere of the NAM portrait gallery
3) Was the overall cost (ie games + hotel) ok?
Yes
4) Was the level/quality of catering ok?
Yes
5) Was the location convenient?
Yes - closer to Luxembourg would be nice, but I had enough notice to get really cheap air tickets
6) Was the date convenient (the aim was to avoid SELWG/Warfare)?
hmm - dodging my reponsibility to take the family away on a school holiday weekend was a discussion point
7) Should we investigate similar weekends for the other "GdeB" rules?
Prefer to stay with Napoleonics, but wouldn´t mind checking out Franco-Prussian
Any specific areas that could be improved/changed?
Carabinier regiments should in future be issued with horse floats to assist various countermarches
A venue easier to reach by public transport could be considered.
Cheers,

1) Would you participate again next year?
If it were Napoleonics definite yes.
2) Were you happy with the venue generally?
Venu was good, apart from running out of Southern Comfort early Saturday evening, Rooms and game area was good, though would second Bryce in thinking different rooms/areas for different games.
3) Was the overall cost (ie games + hotel) ok?
Would obviously prefer something a little less sore on the pocket at the bar, Other than that I thought it good.
4) Was the level/quality of catering ok?
service during meal was a little slow leaving a couple of lads waiting a longish time. Other than that the catering was good.
5) Was the location convenient?
Better than central London or Plymouth though coming from Scotland I have the view that to enjoy such a great experience I would probably travel to Lands End if need be, just need to take a couple of days extra Annual Leave!
6) Was the date convenient (the aim was to avoid SELWG/Warfare)?
The Date could be any time that does not clash with wifes Birthday even then I may risk the divorce! by the way that is September 9 oh yes nor Jan 31 or May 14 the boys could get a little upset then too!
7) Should we investigate similar weekends for the other "GdeB" rules?
Sorry as far as I am concerned I would be limiting participation at such events to Napoleonics.
Any specific areas that could be improved/changed?
YES Derek and Mark should be limited to a reasonable number of double sixes I mean honestly how can two guys roll so many? Especially as Bryce and I seemed at best to roll 5 and below to charge home with alarming regularity
Due to distance travelled I would start the games a little earlier in the morning, to allow maximum game time. |

Yes. Very comfortable room, good shower, pleasant public areas in the hotel.

More or less. I was actually quite impressed by the all-day availability of decent quality coffee and teas, which makes a nice change.
| Ronan the Librarian wrote: | | 5) Was the location convenient? |
Yes, just under 2 hours driving for me.

Yes, please! Guns at Gettysburg and Kriegskunst would be favourites for me, with There are Your Guns close behind.

1 - 7 Yes.
8 It was a nice touch Mr Hyde bringing his Battlegames stand along to the show and would like to see the same again next year.
The Perry's to bring more of their goodies to sell.
Book signing by Mr Urban and Mr Morrisey.
A sort of self service bring and buy stand where players could bring along anything they want to sell. I was lucky enough to buy the earth works that was used in the Long Island game from Martin Small and if he was to bring more of his terrain along next year I am sure he would have a few buyers. |

Hi,
Sorry to take so long to reply. I think I share the view of everyone that it was a super weekend and very nice to put faces to some of the people on the forum.
"Yes" to all questions!
Perhaps a Gettysburg scenario? I've been toying with the thought of scenery construction for a 15mm game.
