Dear gamers,
Please can you give some advice regarding this situation that occurred during a game we had this weekend.
The French player gave one of his cavalry brigages an order to move onto a hill. However before they could reach their objective, a brigade of converged British grenadiers with engage orders moved onto the top of the hill. Looking through the rules the French cavalry could not react to the Grenadiers as they were on move orders or could not make an opportunity charge on them. There fore we decided that the cavalry would go onto hold orders and then would attempt to change orders so that they could charge the grenadiers. In the meantime the Grenadiers engaged the French horse and preceeded to shoot them out of their saddles in a fashion reminscent of Minden.
Can somone one advise me if the French reaction is correct. If not what should happen.
Thanks. |

Stopping the French cavalry's Move order, and replacing it with a Hold order is the way we play it, but at what distance from the enemy infantry did you halt the cavalry's movement? 24"(40cm)? This would have given you plenty of time to Change Orders to the avoid the situation you got into.
Alternatively, when you need to take a geographical feature, such as a hilltop, and 'opposition' is expected or possible, just give the unit an 'Assault' Order to a geographical objective, to begin with, would be my recommendation. The cavalry then halt, and go to Hold once they have reached and occupied the objective, but you are entitled to fight all opposition between your unit and the objective, in the process of getting there. Just my 2P. _________________ Bryce Allen |
