This is my first post and I would like to congratulate Giles on his latest efforts . The Perry French plastics are really quite excellent. I have purchased some Victrix British, and although they are reasonable sculpts, they haven't thought through some of the detail. The size and shape of the bases is one issue, where being oversized , do not suit wargaming basing principles. I know it is easy to trim them to shape, however where they to be like the Perry bases, it would be easier.

In any event, I am working through the Perry French and have the dilemma that all wargame painters must have when I look at some of my earlier efforts and wonder what was I thinking then. Although I am not a Michelangelo, my skills have improved over time. I guess it is the nature of any skill based hobby.

I will be work up the courage and perhaps post some images in the future. Thus far I have completed the equivalent of two French divisions with supporting cavalry (1 brigade) and artillery. In addition I have a combined Nassau/Dutch division also supported by cavary and artillery. So far so good.

Dont worry about your initial efforts, I've given most of mine away to youngsters who are just starting off in the hobby, but still have a very soft spot for my Hinchliffe French FN1 and FN2 with bright pink faces. If they get on the battlefield when I'm desperate for numbers they tend to be hidden away in woods or Villages.

Try and start projects withthe basic line infantry and save the fancy uniforms for light relief towards the end as you painting style will always improve.

I'm saving Cuirassiers and Imperial Guards for Waterloo until last. I hope my eyesight doesnt get any worse after I've retired !!!
