One of my recently completed AWI Continentals units - unifomr colour scheme inspired by the 3rd New York. Figures are a mixture of Perrys and Eurekas:-

These are splendid. The grey coat colour is difficult to get to look 'right' the mind says grey must be ACW uniforms, but that simply doesn't apply here!

Nice choice of unit/uniform and mix of figures - new and ragged uniforms, hunting shirts, and some civvies for new recruits.

Many thanks for the kind words.

I have to say that one of the things that I have enjoyed about painting AWI Americans is the sheer variety of dress etc that you get in any given unit. The other thing is that its nice painting rleatively small units of between 12 and 20 figures - a nice change from 30 - 48 figure Napoleonic monoliths!

At present, my American army consists of the following:-

1 x 24 Light infantry (Front Rank);
5 x 16 continentals/uniformed miltita (Foundry)
1 x 20 Continentals (Perry + the odd Eureka/Foundry figure)
1 x 20 Rifles (Perry)
3 x 12 Militia (Foundry)
1 x 12 Militia (Perry)

12 skirmishers mounted in groups of 3
12 skirmishers (riflemen) mounted in pairs

12 x Mounted riflemen (Perrys)

2 x 6pdr plus crew
2 x 3pdr plus crew

I kick started my collection by buying a few profesionally painted units here and there and then started painting my own. The grey coated unit pictured here is my most recently completed unit and has set the standard for the sort of 'look' I want my other Continental units to have. Some of the recent Perry releases are superb in that they really enable one to get a mix of figures in compatible poses and various degrees of uniformity in dress.

I am now switching my AWI army building focus to Brits and Hessians ....

O

BTW - still haven't played a single game of BG ( Embarassed ) and my more congested basing system means that I need to build both armies myself before I can play a game with my figures.

Orange,

These really are quite superb!

There is just something about this period which keeps calling out to me to have a very real dip. So far the logical "I will concentrate on what I regularly game?" part of the brain...and the wallet is holding the desire at bay.

However these pictures make me think that....

Cheers

Carlo
