A large all day BGPG 2nd Edition game using 20mm kit fought across a table at least 24 feet long.

The Allied players kicked off at Grave Bridge and had Nijmegan Bridge as their last objective. The US Airborne started deployed on the Groesbeek Heights and simply had to hang on and divert German attacks form the main corridor. If the 82nd could reach Nijmegan on foot they were to do so. While XXX Corps simply had to steam roller down Hells Highway and capture the bridge intact!

Random event and reinforcement cards were drawn each turn, which meant that potential German counter attacks could appear from anywhere (and they did!). To make matters worse any Allied deployment off the road required a bog check to be passed and if the corridor was successfully cut by German forces all Allied fire received a -1 modifier, thus detachments had to be dropped off all along the way!

XXX Corps gets moving!

82nd Chairborne deploy.

First of numerous German counter-attacks along the corridor.

More Allied forces required to hold off German attacks.

German Recon elements engage the 82nd.

Air Strikes at last!

A rather unfortunate incident on Grave Bridge as German AT guns deploy across the corridor. (And each rolls 12, 11 and 10 respectively!!)

Allied tanks within stricking distance of Nijmegen Bridge!

Typical Shabby Nazi trick as Tigers arrive to reinforce the Nijmegen garrison.

The game finally ended with the Allied advance stalled just short of Nijmegen Bridge. The game certainly recreated the pressures on the Allies to just keep moving hindered by limited road space and repeated German attacks against the corridor that seemed to slow the advance to a snails pace!! Frustrating but still great fun!

Very nice terrain - sounds like it was an entertaining game.

Good to see that the Cafe Gondree has set up a franchise in the Netherlands, too! Smile

Its no wonder that XXX Corps lost the replay, where are the signals ?

This olg girl is vintage 1942 and was with XXX corps from Normandy all the way to Germany, the red diagonal line signifies Y service, the leaping boar badge is of course XXX corps. One of her listening posts was a shoe factory near Nijmegen. Anybody interested in a British WWII living history display is welcome to join me for a brew at the signals office or the medical display in Ver Sur Mer , Normandy , behind Gold Beach weekend June 6th/7th for the 65th Anniversary of D-Day. Ask for 'Doc'

Home from home...

Ramcsearch,

I'll be at Arromanches with the UK Cadet Contingent, so with any luck I might see you there (I'll be relatively easy to spot - RAF Flt Lt uniform, with Glider Pilot 'Dead Moth' and 'DAVIES' on my chest)..

I'll do my best to get over there!

Regards,

Mark
