When a unit retreats it goes directly away from the enemy or back towards their own lines.
Does 'their own lines' mean the table edge in the deployment area or nearest friendly troops on table?
How do other people interpret this? |

I have always assumed 'own lines' as an imaginary line drawn across the front of your Brigade/Corps etc behind which you are free from charges/fire etc which may approximate the initial deployment front.

RT,
The first half of any retreat move is always directly away from the enemy who have inflicted their defeat.
From then on it is as you assumed - they head back to rally behind the forward line of your own troops or brigade.
If unable to rally they will then head towards their own friendly table edge.
